Bondex Trust
The History
Bondex International, Inc. was founded in 1959 in St. Louis as a small-scale manufacturer specializing in construction-related products. In 1966, Republic Powdered Metals acquired Bondex, expanding its product line.
For nearly two decades, Bondex used asbestos in products such as putties, joint compounds, texture paints, topping cement, and roof cement. As a result, the company became the subject of numerous asbestos-related lawsuits.
By 2010, Bondex International and its parent company, SPHC, filed for bankruptcy due to the financial burden of asbestos litigation. As part of the bankruptcy resolution, the Bondex Trust compensates individuals affected by asbestos exposure from Bondex products.
Purpose of the Trust
The Bondex Trust was created to ensure that asbestos personal injury claims are handled efficiently and fairly. Its primary responsibilities include processing claims, reviewing and approving valid claims, and paying compensation to eligible claimants. The Trust follows the TDP guidelines to ensure equitable treatment across similar claim types.
