Brauer Asbestos Trust

The Brauer 524(g) Asbestos Trust was established in 2012 with an initial funding of $7 million. It followed the confirmation of the Chapter 11 Fourth Amended Plan of Reorganization by Brauer Supply Company. The company's asbestos-containing insulation materials had put insulators, plumbers, and HVAC workers at risk of primary and secondary exposure.

History

Brauer Supply Company was founded in 1881 as a supplier of HVAC parts and repair services. The company changed its name in 1907 and expanded into manufacturing insulation products containing asbestos in the 1950s, continuing this through the 1960s and 1970s. By the 1980s, the company was facing personal injury lawsuits tied to asbestos exposure and eventually declared bankruptcy in 2005. Six years later, the trust was officially created and began accepting claims on March 4, 2013.

Purpose of the Trust

The Trust was established to process, liquidate, and pay valid asbestos personal injury (PI) claims in accordance with the Trust Distribution Procedures (TDP).

The Trust exists to ensure fair and equitable compensation for individuals impacted by asbestos exposure linked to Brauer products.
