Federal-Mogul U.S. Asbestos Personal Injury Trust

Founded in 1899, Federal-Mogul is a long-standing supplier in the automotive industry. Various asbestos claims against two acquired companies - Turner & Newall and Fel-Pro - in the late 1990s led to the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in 2001. The Federal-Mogul Asbestos Personal Injury Trust was established in 2007 with initial funding of $690 million to handle existing and future asbestos-related claims.

History of the Trust

In 1998, Federal-Mogul acquired Turner & Newall and Fel-Pro, companies known for producing gasket and automotive friction products such as brake pads, bearings, and seals that contained asbestos. Over time, the corporation faced numerous asbestos-related lawsuits. By 2001, it entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and after six years of proceedings, the Federal-Mogul Asbestos Personal Injury Trust Fund was created in 2007.

The Trust consists of two sub-funds: one solely for Turner & Newall claims and another covering all other asbestos-related liabilities.

Purpose of the Trust

The Trust was formed to provide fair, equitable, and consistent treatment for all asbestos claims - current and future - within the rules set forth by its Trust Distribution Procedures (TDP).

The Trust offers equitable treatment for all present and future Asbestos Trust Claims that meet established guidelines.
