Garlock Settlement Facility

History

The Garlock Settlement Facility (�the Trust�) was created as part of the Modified Joint Plan of Reorganization of Garlock Sealing Technologies LLC and OldCo, LLC, Successor by Merger to Coltec Industries Inc. The Trust was established to resolve asbestos claims resulting from exposure to products manufactured by Garlock and Coltec Industries. The initial trust fund was $480 million.

Garlock Sealing Technologies was founded in 1887 and became known for manufacturing sealing products, including gaskets sold under the brand names Garlock, Blue - Gard, Gylon, and Flexseal. From 1907 to 1980, asbestos was extensively used in gasket production for boilers, engines, machinery, and packing materials. This widespread exposure led to thousands of asbestos - related lawsuits.

In 2003, Garlock became a wholly owned subsidiary of Enpro Industries and continues to operate under Enpro. By 2010, mounting litigation costs led the company to file for bankruptcy, ultimately resulting in the formation of the Garlock Settlement Facility.

Purpose of the Trust

The Trust was established to review and resolve asbestos - related claims against Garlock fairly and impartially. Its mission is to ensure timely and equitable compensation for individuals harmed by exposure to Garlock products through defined procedures and policies.

The Trust also manages special circumstances, including claims involving deceased or incompetent individuals, hardship cases, second disease (malignancy) claims, and foreign claims.
