Metex Asbestos Personal Injury Trust
The Metex Asbestos PI Trust was established on September 3, 2014, following the approval of Metex's Chapter 11 Plan of Reorganization. The Trust was funded with $193 million to compensate individuals affected by asbestos exposure.
History
Kentile Floors, founded in 1898, became well known for its vinyl and asphalt tiles that reportedly contained up to 25% asbestos. Although the company grew significantly, its use of asbestos ultimately resulted in thousands of lawsuits from individuals suffering asbestos - related illnesses.
By 1992, increasing litigation forced Kentile to file for bankruptcy. After ceasing operations in 1995, the company later restructured as Metex Manufacturing Corporation in 1998, inheriting Kentile's asbestos liabilities. These ongoing claims eventually led Metex to file for bankruptcy in 2012.
The Metex Asbestos PI Trust was created in 2014 to provide financial compensation to individuals harmed by asbestos exposure, fulfilling obligations inherited from Kentile.
This Trust was designed to provide fair, equitable, and substantially similar treatment for all current and future Asbestos PI Claims.
