Yarway Asbestos Personal Injury Trust
The Yarway Asbestos Personal Injury Trust was established in 2015 with an initial fund of $325 million following the company's bankruptcy filing in 2013. The Trust was created as part of Yarway Corporation's Bankruptcy Reorganization Plan to address claims from individuals impacted by asbestos exposure due to the company's products.
The Trust exists to ensure fair, equitable, and substantially similar treatment for all asbestos personal injury claims, whether existing today or arising in the future.
The History
Yarway Corporation, initially incorporated in 1908, became a prominent supplier to the steam power industry during its expansion. Over the years, Yarway manufactured a variety of products that incorporated asbestos.
These products included Yarway Process Steam Traps, Yarway Tandem Blow-off Valves, Yarway Seatless (Simplex) Blow-off Valves, Gun-Pakt Expansion Joints, Wrought Steel Expansion Joints, Yarway Hydraulic Valves, Yarway Air Control Valves, Yarway Adjustable Spray Heads, and Yarway Automatic Boiler Skimmers.
These products were heavily used between the 1920s and the 1980s and exposed workers and end-users to asbestos, leading to numerous lawsuits related to asbestos-related diseases. Rising litigation costs eventually led Yarway to file for bankruptcy in 2013. Two years later, the Yarway Asbestos Personal Injury Trust was established to compensate claimants.
